Early this summer, amid fears of the spread of swine flu, the Egyptian government ordered the slaughter of some 250,000 pigs in Cairo. The pigs used to eat much of the city’s garbage. Now a non-profit organization called Solar Cities is looking to put all that extra organic waste to use—-by turning it into natural gas.

A recent study of entrepreneurs by the Kauffman Foundation revealed that older more experienced men and women are leading the charge in new business start ups. An average of 530,000 new businesses were started each month in 2008 which is up slightly over 2007 which appears consistent with historical trends during a recession.
