In these tough times are people finally realizing that a college education means zero? How many with degrees?
are unemployed? It is entrepreneurs and small businessmen who make it tough times like these..I feel so bad for so many that are my age and have decades of schooling and nothing to show for it except 6 figure debt….

How many doctors are you trying to claim are out of work?
Try being an engineer or doctor or lawyer without degrees.
That number has been increasing since bush destroyed our economy.
Ya just gotta love the “village idiot”.
My brother is 38, makes 86k a year and works about 30 hours a week, with 6 weeks vacation. He wouldn’t have his job without a degree. To say they are worthless isn’t accurate. To say they don’t automatically make you well off, I would agree with that 100%.
Those with a four year degree or higher have much lower amount of unemployment as compared to those with only a high school diploma (even in this recession). Where are you getting your statistics?
you know people that have “decades” of college ???
____________
Fact : statistics show that those with college educations earn more than those without !!
and
Unemployment is higher for those without college degrees.
and
people with college degrees get more vacation time.
All I can say is this, a lot of college people voted for the fool, I hope everyone of them is way in debt and nothing but flipping burgers is in their future.
Having an education is never a bad thing.
Being ignorant benefits no one.
Only in America do people glory in their ignorance.
It depends what the college degree is for. A degree in Business or Communications will get you nothing. A degree in a specialized engineering field means a whole lot. The problem is placing emphasis on getting a college degree just for the sake of getting a college degree. People should get college degrees to specialize in certain complex fields.
And don’t even get me started on those stupid Art History majors.
Did you just get done reading Rich Dad Poor Dad?
Not necessarily. There’s a big difference in a degree in Engineering and one in Politically Correct Tree Hugging Basket Weaving.
That is an absurd statement. Aside from the value of a more advanced education, which btw has value in and of itself, individuals with college educations are more highly valued by employers than those with just high school education, according to the statistics.
Individuals need to assess their own interests and abilities. There is no doubt that times are difficult for people at all educational levels but trying to downgrade the value of higher education seems rather silly. In addition, one has to have a college education in order to attend law school, medical school, obtain an MBA or pursue advanced degrees in areas that interest them.
Many individuals, however, don’t necessarily need to go to college and should perhaps pursue technical training that would be of more interest to them and in which they could find fulfilling careers. Others, as you suggest, might pursue entrepreneurial endeavors. Your general statement however is downright silly.
It depends on the degree.
A degree in History, Political Science, or English do not mean much unless you are planning to teach.
People will have a greater chance of getting jobs with degrees in pre-law/med, engineering, or a hard science.
Trade schools graduates can earn more money than many college grads. A bachelor’s degree today is like a high school diploma.
“The world needs ditch-diggers too”…
A college education is not meaningless.
you sound a bit spiteful for someone who has a college degree for some reason..
Most college students cannot borrow more than 32000 in their yrs of college. so I am not sure where you get the “6 figure thing from..” Med school sure, but medical student may have a 250 k debt but generally will begin earning the equivalent of that in a year after residency in private practice.
a college degree still has “value” generally college grads will in a life time earn 3 – 4 times more than people who go to work directly out of high school. While I don’t don’t being an entrepreneur or small business owner is the “true engine” of our economy most will tell there college education provided them with tools that made them better business men or women. They learned marketing, accounting, and economic theory that could be applied in the real world, that gave them the ability over their “un-educated” competitor.
If you “got lucky” and established a business without the education, I say good for you and more power to you. But when the rubber meets the road if you aren’t just selling crack on the street corner, and in a real business with a real consumer value i think you will find that knowledgeable people in an organization that is growing are people who did educated themselves. Whether that education was a 4 yr degree or the school of hard knocks it does not matter.
A formal education shows something more, it does show an employer determination and a willingness to complete something.
while many college graduates come out with an idealized view of the world, many come out ready to with more clarity of vision than the most hardened among. My experience with college was 25 yrs ago. I don’t don’t things have changed substantially, serious flaws exists in the professorial hiring, of serious leftists and the impact it has on the graduates is sickening. as a parent of one who is heading off to college arming them with knowledge to counter the leftist currents in a liberal arts college is important. You have to have the prepared to do battle in a system that is stacked against them. they will earn more money then their uneducated counter parts over their life time. that is a fact.
ECONOMIC VALUE OF A COLLEGE EDUCATION – Average Income High School Graduate $28,700
College Graduate $53,800
ECONOMIC VALUE OF A COLLEGE EDUCATION – Lifetime Income High School Graduate $940,000
College Graduate $1,800,000
Actual statistics don’t back up your observation. That said I do feel bad for someone who has 6 figure debt who is also unemployed.
