What’s the best way to advertise my skill?
I sew and bead necklaces at home and can paint murals. I work for 2 SAHM/entrepreneurs for the first 2 products but I want to do more. I’ve listed my service on Craigslist and had a small response. Where should I advertise? Also, should I have my own personal web page or would a collection of products on Webshots do?

Start your own website. In it advertise what you’re good at and I’m sure business will grow day-by-day.
Contact someone at http://www.geostarpublishing.com . I can’t find their email id. They have a project thru which they promote entrepreneurs like you very effectively, at no cost.
start getting in to art shows or caft shows. get your product out there for exposure. like they say on the commercial location, location, location….you need exposure, exposure, exposure, and the only way to do that is to get out there to shows. web page and websites are great but how are you getting people there? do they know you even exist?
go to this site for a list of shows and see if you would to get in them…you won’t be disappointed. http://www.festivalinfo.net
Look for trade shows of any kind in your area and get a table. Set up your goods based on the type of people attending, and then DON’T SELL! Connect instead, connect with the people, and sell yourself instead of the product.
You should definitely set up a website, or at least a MySpace or Yahoo 360 site that you can direct people to.
I know that there is a community of entrepreneur artists called “Red Dot Project”, you might want to make connections with them and see if they can help you with ideas as well — http://www.reddotproject.org
All the other suggestions from the people I read are pretty valid. But instead of a website, I would suggest a blog. It allows for quick updates. And your murals require plenty of updates. It’s a good thing to keep pictures of your progress. AND videos. Shoot one up on YouTube or Google Video and plug it in your blog. Also: Consider updating projects that you want to do. Create small-scale murals, like one of those three-paneled carboards that we used in science fair projects to show what it would look like on an actual hard surfice. You need to be proactive, pretty much. Anything that exposes you to the public is great. You logged on craigslist to get jobs. You should plug in on craigslist teaching art to children or something. It’s pretty affordable, and you can all meet at a library or something just for kicks. Collect modest fees, but pass out cards. Parents are good yappers of people with talent. And one of those friends could have a business who could use a good mural.
ALSO: be proactive and explore your city. Consider a great city-wide mural. If there’s a local pub, consider painting a mural for them and make it in small scale. Send the small scale mural to the owner for free. Just as a token of their service for their community (and to show how cool it would be to have your mural, of course). Maybe you could get hired.
Good luck.
